and...more on THE EDGE=

From Rhoda Riddell, writer and writing coach...
"In a book called HERE BE DRAGONS, the first of a trilogy, historical fiction,
on early Wales..the author explains her title by saying that this
phrase used to be on the edge of maps. The maps would show the ocean and at
the edge of map/ocean they would write HERE BE DRAGONS. In other words, they did not know what was beyond their map...at THE EDGE.. but assumed there were dragons"
What are our current dragons?

"According to graphologists, your handwriting shows if you approach life
bravely or fearfully, and some say that to change, you can change your
handwriting. That theory is called graphotherapy. To try graphotherapy, if
you want more courage take a look at your handwriting and the rightward
slant, spacing and margins. When you write you go forward and backward and,
according to graphologists, this represents your movement toward
relationships. That wide righthand margin may be the EDGE for you..so practice
moving more to the right in repeated penmanship exercises--more rightward
slant, narrower right margin. But at the same time you must constantly affirm
to yourself, "Every day in every way I'm getting braver and braver!" So it
may be the affirmations that persuade you. Certainly as you practice writing
in a movement that takes you more firmly into the future, and tell yourself
at the same time that you want to be more courageous, you may be persuaded."

THE BUTTERFLY ..<received by two readers>
..on the importance of struggling at our EDGE!...

"A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared
He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon.

The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.

The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.

What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. If God allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. We could never fly!"
