Yes, I Can!

If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you'd like to win, but think you can't,
it's almost certain you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you're lost.
For in the world we find, success begins with a person's will.
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are;
you've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself before you can ever win a prize.
Life's battles don't always go to the stronger or faster woman or man.
But sooner or later the person who wins is the one who thinks he can!

<<Top Ten T'S for a Terrific New Year>>

1) TAKE TIME for Yourself:  Take time to decide what you really want in the year 2001.
Ask yourself: how can this new year be the best it can be?  What can you do
differently that will bring you greater happiness? What is your ideal
life?  your ideal work?  your ideal relationship?
Be Selfish (take care of yourself first so that you fill up your Cup of Life...you then have
more to give to others as well as to yourself).
For lots of information about becoming Selfish by building your Self Esteem, see back issues
of my newsletter at my website: www.ingearcoaching.com.
TAKE more vacations this year; and take more vacation days...spend them doing what you love.

Ask yourself what you can do to design the life you want in the year 2001;
make it your intention to begin creating it now!

2) TREAT Yourself:  Make a list of all the things you love to do* - and then do them
        often! Go to a spa; have a massage; learn a new skill; listen to music;
dance; read more books, see more movies, experience more cultural
events..Incorporate three new "delicious daily habits" into your life.
*See my list of 101 Ideas for Self-Nurturing Activities at my website or email me today.

3) THINK: Take time to THINK about your goals, clarify your vision of your perfect life.
Create a TREASURE MAP: cut out pictures/words of everything you want to
achieve during the year...places you want to go...things you want to do..relationships
you want to add (or remove) from your life..Stick these onto a poster board where
you can see it every day...and add to it.
Adopt the right attitude: I think I Can!  <see poem above>

3) TELL someone every day what you appreciate about them.
According to Ken Blanchard, author of <The One Minute Manager>,
people need compliments:criticisms in a ratio of 4:1. How is your ratio?
Learn to use the powerful appreciation skill: the Positive I-Message:
<When you (describe the other's behavior), I feel (state the positive feeling you get)
because (the tangible effect on me>
(eg. <when you take the time to cook a nice meal, I really appreciate it because it means
I had more free time to get my other work done>
Send this I-Message to someone you love today...instead of the evaluative You-Message <eg. You're so Thoughtful>

4) TRY New Things:  When was the last time you tried something new? Learned
a new skill? did something playful or outrageous? Do it Now!
TAKE Risks that lead to personal growth.  For lots more information on taking risks,
see back issues of my newsletter at my website. www.ingearcoaching.com

5) TOLERATE Nothing:  Reduce and Eliminate Tolerations!  Tolerations are things
that drain our energy...little and big things..from a missing button to a
destructive relationship.  Make a list of 100 of your tolerations and start
eliminating them now so that you will create a space for the things you
        love to do.
<See newsletter issue #39 for more information on reducing Tolerations>
Contact me for the <Clean Sweep> assessment: a 100-point checklist to help you assess...
then systematically.. eliminate tolerations related to four areas of your life: Environment,
Financial, Relationships, Health.

6) TAH DAH! Stop TO-DOING and start TAH-DAHing!
Identify and take acknowledge your successes; then celebrate them!
Give yourself permission to brag..tell others about your successes..
often people are not aware of them....
And be sure to Laugh a lot - have fun with your successes!

friends, colleagues, community; be thankful for being healthy...for having opportunities for growth..
for doing work you love..for having the freedom to make choices...for living in a world of infinite beauty in nature...
and much more...  Take Time to be thankful..daily...for your life.

10) TAKE Action!  Set daily/weekly action steps to move yourself forward towards your goals.
Be accountable for your actions: find a buddy to support you or hire a coach so that you will take actions today
to help you move forward faster in creating your perfect life in 2001!
