*READER FEEDBACK:
Regarding my issue (#55) on <IT'S NOT PERSONAL> I received the following
<Dear Laurie,
Loved your "It's not personal" theme because.(it gave me greater awareness/acceptance
of past, painful experiences...confidential)
Jim
<Laurie
This is lovely! I was introduced this year to a book of Toltec wisdom
called
The Four Agreements. These agreements have helped me tremendously --
The four agreements are:
1. Be impeccable with your word; Say only what you mean; The word is
the
most powerful tool humans have.
2. Don't take anything personally; Self-importance leads people to
think they are the center of the universe, causing pain and injustice.
3. Don't make assumptions. To avoid frustration and blame, ask what
is meant.
4. Always do your best. This is the surest way to avoid self- condemnation,
though it is important to realize one's best is always changing.

Topic: <<TOP TEN ASSESSMENT TOOLS for SELF AWARENESS>>
Assessment tests/scales can
be very useful in helping us gain greater
self awareness and understanding Once we have become more aware
of
ourselves through the assessment results, we can move forward to take
action that will lead us towards creating better relationships, being
more
effective at work, achieving greater happiness. There are a variety
of
assessment tools available, many for free, that can help us clarify
our values, our needs, our interests, our preferences, our stress level,
risk level, or self esteem level, general quality of life....and much
more.
The following are some excellent
assessment tools:
1. *THE MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR (MBTI)
The MBTI is considered "the
best researched, most widely-used,
and largest-selling personality measure for self awareness for the
general public."
The MBTI clearly shows the strengths inherent in our differences..
called our "gifts
differing"....thus creating better relationships, at work or at home.
The MBTI
has been used successfully in team-building, career counseling, marriage
counseling, roommate matching, teacher/student pairings, and
much more.
The MBTI must be administered by a certified professional.
2. *MSEI: The Multidimensional Self-Esteem Inventory
The MSEI is an objective
self-report inventory which measures 4
areas of one's self esteem: 1) Global self esteem or, one's most
basic evaluation
of self worth; 2) Specific self esteem: which includes 8 specific
qualities:
competence, lovability, likability, self-control, personal power, moral
self-approval,
body appearance, and body functioning; 3) Identity Integration:
the extent to
which one's identity is integrated with the 8 qualities; 4) Defensive
self-enhancement: the extent to which a person defensively deflates
or inflates
his or her identity.
"There is wide recognition by psychologists, educators, and mental
health
professionals that a comprehensive evaluation of personality involves
examination of the individual's self perceptions (self concept) and
the
evaluations associated with those perceptions (self esteem).
Self-esteem and self-concept have long been regarded as central to
the
fields of personality and clinical psychology." The MSEI needs
to
be interpreted by a professional.

assessment to help determine your level of self esteem (copyright:

*(Involves a materials fee)
3. The HOLMES-RAHE LIFE CHANGE SCALE (or The Social ReAdjustment
Scale)
Often called the STRESS TEST!
An individual ranks 43 critical,
but common, life changes, weights them by number thus giving a total score.
The higher the score, the more likely the individual is to experience injury
or illness. By becoming aware of one's total score, the individual
may choose to minimize any more changes in their life thus preventing stress-related
illness.
also available: The STRESS INDEX: Identify 20 areas of potential stress
in your life in order to find ways to reduce it!
4. RISK-TAKING
Are you a risk-taker?
Identify the type of risk-taker you are (physical, emotional, financial,
creative, social, professional, spiritual) and clarify the risks you want/need
to take for personal growth and development. (developed by Laurie Geary:

The following assessments were developed by Thomas Leonard and by CoachU
staff, trainers, and participants...
5. CLEAN SWEEP
This is the most widely
used assessment by coaches from CoachU. It measures 4 areas of your life:
Physical Environment, Well-Being, Money, Relationships which helps the
individual determine energy drains and areas to improve in order to achieve
more vitality and strength.
Related assessment: THE WHEEL OF LIFE (developed by CTI: Coach Training
Institute) - a visual assessment of 8 areas of life balance.
6. TRU-VALUES
This assessment helps you
clarify and identify what your top 4 true values are and then motivates
you to design a life which honors and expresses those values. Values
are those
qualities that matter most to you. If you are living a life that
is out of alignment with your values, you will be living a life of discomfort
and anxiety...you will feel out of integrity.
Related assessment: STRENGTHS INVENTORY ("Identifying your strengths
is one of the best ways to build your self esteem!")
7. NEEDLESS
The purpose of the NEEDless
program is to help you identify your top 4 personal needs, understand how
to get your personal needs met, and design an effective system to have
your needs disappear once and for all. Personal needs are those things
we must have in order to be our best. Unmet needs often drain energy
and distract us from getting what we really want in life.
8. IRRESISTIBLE ATTRACTION
With this assessment you
identify 100 ways to make yourself irresistible to the right people and
opportunities; you will then effortlessly attract what you want into your
life. Identify energy drains (tolerations) and establish positive
daily (weekly, monthly) habits.
Related assessment: PERSONAL FOUNDATION: identify ways to build your
personal foundation for self esteem development.
9. QUALITY OF LIFE INDEX
100 ways to measure the
quality of your life to determine what changes you want/need to make to
develop a fulfilling and meaningful life.
10. RESERVE INDEX
If we are going to start
a new business, we need reserves of money and time to
develop it; if we are going to increase our level of fitness, we need
reserves of energy.
This index measures 6 areas of reserve needed: Time & Space, Money
& Freedom, Love & Attraction, Energy & Vitality, Opportunities
& Momentum, Source & Power...in order to
create a totally fulfilling life.
Other assessments available for professionals: STAFF EXCELLENCE PROGRAM,
NEW BUSINESS START-UP, MANAGER 2000, PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE CHECKLIST,
MASTER COACH PROGRAM, COACHING SKILLS PROGRAM, COACHABILITY INDEX...and
much more.
