[Another] idea [for a special holiday] gift came in something I read where you put your special memories of a person [friend, family] on pieces of paper and put them in a box to give. I thought I would write them up by month and clip them inside a desk calendar. At the same time, Peter Stillman in FAMILIES WRITING suggests the Round Robin-where one person writes all her memories, mails it to the next, who adds, sends it on...[until the calendar/book is filled with wonderful, special memories].

More on CONNECTION:
My theme this month has been on creating happiness during the holidays, either through learning tips/techniques for preventing conflict, through making connections, following/establishing traditions & rituals, and using ideas for giving that are more meaningful than giving material things.
Because connection is most important to me during the holidays, I decided to devote another issue to this topic. I have been reading Edward Hallowell's recent book, CONNECT, where he states that <<we are in a crisis of disconnection....even though, ironically, we are more connected than ever with electronic mail, faxes, cell phones, answering machines, the Internet...We are instantly reachable...yet real human connection no longer happens>> What can we do to truly reconnect...to achieve what he calls: <<the human moment?>>  We need to slow down...to take time to BE together...to listen, to share ideas & feelings, to play...We need to give OURSELVES rather than give material things - WE are the most precious gift we can give! Treat each day as if it were your last one together - Be in the present...Enjoy the moment.Think about how you can give of YOURSELF to your loved ones this holiday season...(and during the rest of the year!) Use the ideas mentioned in last week's issue (and this week's); ACT NOW! If you have any other good ideas or personal stories that you would like to share with my readers, please send them in this week!
