TOPIC:
Last week I wrote about attending my family reunion which was also meant to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday.  I asked her to tell me what it's like to be 80 years old...she sent me the following:

On TURNING 80 - TOP TEN RECOMMENDATIONS to LIVE A GOOD LIFE
What I Did and Wish I'd Done More.....
                by Rhoda Riddell (gaby1028@aol.com)

1.  Invest something every month. The old idea of tithing is a good one but
also put aside even a small amount...buy land, buy art, buy stocks, maybe a
little of each. Diversify. Be creative.

2. Create something every month or more, even if it is a new recipe.
Exercise your creative skills. The best creation is a laugh a day..make someone else laugh each day.

3. Find something that you nourish every day....think garden, pet, friendship,
family. And, nourish yourself every day too!!

4. Speak or teach something every month. If you can't think of anything to
speak about or teach, research that...we can all teach something. Find something fun,
whether it's bridge or whittling or a different language. If speaking or teaching daunts you,
 join Toastmasters or an improvisation group, or tutor kids.

5. Write in a journal every day. Keep several journals: count your blessings, record your thoughts/ideas;
keep a reading journal and/or a movie journal; keep a five year diary, a travel diary; record your activities/accomplishments;
Write letters; keep copies.
Remember the Red King who said, "I'll never forget this moment!" The Red Queen said "Yes you will. Make a note of it."

6. Travel every week or month or year... short, long and longer.. back yard,
downtown, the world!

7. Read something every day...fiction/non-fiction: magazines/books/newspapers/journals..

8. Learn something new every day. be a lifelong learner.  Learn yoga, woodworking,
transactional analysis, Buddhism. You need to feed all of your needs...physical, mental, emotional, spirtual.

9. Become an expert at something!

10. Find your passion.... what you want to live for, what gives your life zest.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

<IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER I'd dare to make more mistakes next time.  I'd relax, I would limber up.  I would be sillier than I have been this trip.  I would take fewer things seriously.  I would take more chances.  I would climb more mountains and swim more rivers.  I would eat more ice cream and less beans.  I would perhaps have more actual troubles, but I'd have fewer imaginary ones.
        You see, I'm one of those people who live sensible and sanely hour after  hour, day after day.  Oh, I've had my moments, and if I had it to do over again, I'd have more of them.  In fact, I'd try to have nothing else.  Just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day.  I've been one of those persons who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a raincoat and a parachute.  If I had to do it again, I would travel lighter than I have.
        If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall.  I would go to more dances.  I would ride more merry-go-rounds.  I would pick more daisies>.
