READY - FIRE - AIM!
In my role as a coach and an instructor for Outward Bound, I have come to value the experiential approach to life which is more like READY-FIRE-AIM:
you take Action first ("Fire") and then adjust your "aim" based on the results of your action. The traditional approach (READY-AIM-FIRE) can cause "preparational paralysis" as you try to get your aim just right before you "fire" (take action).
With that in mind, I am "firing off" this email broadcast even though it is not perfect  or correctly aimed. I'll learn as I go and I hope to hear from you about what is of interest to you, what you find helpful or informative, so that I can continually correct my "aim."   My goal is to provide you with tips and techniques that will support you in creating the life you want -- and then give you "homework" ("tarea" in Spanish) to encourage you to take action ("fire!") during the week based on the information you have read.
so...READY - FIRE....

As a personal coach, I am always encouraging and supporting my clients to take risks (of their choice) to get unstuck and move forward with bold steps...some people report really positive break-throughs!  One of the first steps is to be motivated to take a risk...here are some reasons:

TOP TEN REASONS TO TAKE CONSTRUCTIVE RISKS
(copyright 1999: Laurie Geary. All rights reserved)

1.  Risk-taking is the "Path to Personal Growth"

2.  Risk-taking is the "Path to Professional Growth"

3.  You develop your RISK MUSCLE (so that you are more ready and willing to continue to take risks to grow)

4.  You develop greater SELF CONFIDENCE and a more POSITIVE SELF-IMAGE

5.  You become a ROLE MODEL for others to take risks

6.  You experience lots of ADRENALIN & ENDORPHINS - you experience the thrill of risking!  You develop a POSITIVE ADDITION (see Glaser).

7.  You have more PEAK EXPERIENCES (see Maslow)

8.  You continually expand your COMFORT ZONE..and therefore are a LIFELONG LEARNER.

9.  You become a CLIMBER in life rather than a CAMPER or a QUITTER
**(see "The Adversity Quotient", by Paul Stoltz)

10. Life is much more FUN!

Can you add more reasons to take risks? Let me know!  Thanks

TAREA
This week take your "Risk History": List all the  risks you have taken in your lifetime...If helpful, categorize the risks by life stages: childhood, teenage,
young adulthood, adulthood, middle age,  retirement. Make the following chart:
DESCRIBE the RISK, CONSEQUENCE/RESULT?, LEARNINGS?

Some provocative questions:
What risks really changed your life? In what ways?
What risks do you regret not taken?
What would you like to change in your life now regarding risk-taking?

I would love to hear from you with any comments or feedback about this FIRST broadcast of GET YOUR LIFE IN GEAR FOR SUCCESS!
