 READER FEEDBACK:
<Dear Laurie: Thank you for reminding me of the value of taking
the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.<see issue #36> As an Introvert
in an Extrovert world, I often felt unaccepted and that something
was wrong with me...Now I can appreciate who I am and know that
Extraverts <who have taken the MBTI> will see my <gifts differing>
and not try to change me.  This is definitely a big boost to
my self esteem!> MB

<I really appreciate Reader responses; please send in any of
your comments today! Thanks>

TOPIC: NETWORKING

 As I travel this summer throughout California, away from my
regular network of professional and personal connections, I am
more aware of the importance of networking and making new connections;
this is a great opportunity for me to reach out and expand my
network.  Here are some of my techniques and thoughts:

NINE NECESSARY NETWORKING NOTIONS:

1.  Talk to everyone!  on airplanes, in elevators, standing in
line, in restrooms, in stores, in restaurants..

2.  Be open, friendly, approachable...say HI...smile a lot.

3.  Ask for business cards...and give out yours.  Keep track
of these cards; write any information about them you want to
remember on the back.

4. Keep a data base of all your contacts...stay connected with
them, i.e. send them your newsletter, or holiday greetings, or
periodic information of interest to them.

5. FOLLOW UP and DO NOT DELAY: Be sure to do whatever you promised
someone as soon as possible, i.e. send any information requested,
make a follow-up phone call, return all phone calls or emails
immediately.

6.  Write THANK YOU NOTES!

7.  Keep in touch with you regular network or friends and colleagues:
call them periodically, send cards, postcards, email.

8. Carry an interesting object <such as a book or a tennis racket>
or wear a  T-shirt or pin with a saying on it <I like to wear
my I COACH-YOU WIN pin> - this gives someone an easier way to
start up a conversation with you.

9.  Don't be afraid to ask for help..or directions!

**I welcome any of your favorite networking notions...to help
me and other readers take advantage of our opportunity to network
as we travel this summer**

A Poem.. on NETWORKING:

<There are two kinds of people you can meet any day.
Two types of people, no more I say.
There are those you know and those you do not;
Your success will depend on how many know what
you do well and how you can serve them.
If you want success use this stratagem:
Ask those you know to tell those they know
about you, and your network will grow;
By helping your network get what they want and need,
You'll get everything you need as you succeed>.
