Topic: ASSESSMENT TOOLS help build Self Esteem:
Are you aware that the MBTI, or the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, is the most widely-used and largest-selling personality measure of self-awareness for the general public? Since 1975, the MBTI has been used by numerous businesses and corporations, educational Institutions, human service agencies, and other organizations to improve working relationships and increase staff development. Over 300 research studies have proven the Indicator to be a reliable assessment tool in a variety of situations such as effective employer/employee fits, increased job satisfaction, corporate team-building, teacher/student learning-style matches, marriage success, career development, college roommates matches, and much more. Based on a theory developed by Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, in 1923, that there is a pattern in apparently random behavior...a pattern that reflects a person's preferences for taking in information, making decisions, and taking action. Jung postulated that these preferences are inborn/innate, like handedness <our preference for using our right or left hand>, and basically remains the same over our lifetime. At the same time Jung is developing his theory, Katerine Briggs (an American with no advanced degrees) is developing her own typology based on observing people and studying biographies...and eventually integrating her theory with Jung's. Later, in the 1940's, Katherine's daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers, devised a method to make her mother's and Jung's theories of practical use. Thus, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator was born. In 1975, Consulting Psychologist Press made it available for general use. The MBTI evaluates personality in four distinct areas: Extroverts
- Introverts or E - I;
E - I indicates where you get your energy...from
the external world or internal world;
We all have a preference for each one of these pairings.. You can probably guess now what your preferences are...and then come up with your configuration. Most people are not surprised at their type configuration when they score the MBTI, but it is interesting to be confirmed by what you already know about yourself. It can be very interesting to know the types of others, however, in order to value and accept their differences My type is ENFP - this combination tells me much about myself..my preferences. and helps me value my <gifts>. I can learn to capitalize upon my dominant types and find ways to balance them with my less dominant types. And, by understanding the types of others, I can learn to value their <gifts> and thus improve our relationship by building upon our differences and similarities. One of the most valuable points of the MBTI is that our differences are positive and essential; we need each other! Our differences enrich out lives. The MBTI has been shown to reduce conflict, improve decision-making and problem-solving, increase effective communication, and create better job satisfaction. The MBTI is a rich assessment tool for learning about yourself and others. Taking the MBTI in a group setting with its accompanying explanations for greater understanding can be very helpful for professional staffs. However, individuals can also find value in taking the MBTI and learning more about the value of their <gifts>; individuals can learn how to find greater balance in their personal and professional lives which certainly helps build self esteem! Take time to learn more about yourself and the people around you; take the MBTI and improve your self esteem and your relationships. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
