3. WEEKLY ARTICLE: <<8 A -Advantages of Being Single...and
Going Solo>>
As I was standing in the singles line in Vail, Colorado, I realized
there are a lot of advantages to being single,..not having to wait in long
lines at crowded ski areas is one of them! I could move right onto
the lift, while others waited endlessly for their lines to move.
The "single situation," or being alone, is often considered a condition
to avoid; every week there are articles urging marriage...partnership..togetherness..
couple-dom...
There seems to be a pervasive message that Singles are not happy. Yet,
being one of the 50% of Singles in the world, I began to reflect on the
many advantages of being Single...and going Solo....that I (and single
friends of mine) have experienced.
<<The 8 A's ....Advantages of Being Single...and Going
Solo>>
1. Skiing:
Getting right on the ski lift by going into the singles lane
at crowded ski areas. You also get to meet
different people each time you ride up in the chair.
2. Restaurants:
Not having to wait for a table....I almost always find a seat
right at the bar and get served my dinner immediately.
3. Meeting People:
When you stand alone at a party or networking event or sit alone
at a restaurant, it is much easier for people to approach you or for you
to approach them.
A friend of mine decided to go alone to a fancy restaurant in New York
City. Two gentlemen sitting nearby invited her to join them and,
shortly thereafter, another friend of theirs walked in and joined them.
Thus, she spent the evening with Donald Trump!
4. Dancing: I love to go dancing and I notice that when I go alone
I dance a lot more often!
5. Traveling:
a. It is much easier to connect with fellow travelers when you
are alone, and these people will be doing what you have chosen to do too!
Another advantage is that you can leave them whenever you no longer want
to be with them or don't want to go where they want to go.
b. When you travel alone you can do what you want to do,
when you want to do it, how you want to do it, where you want to do it.
Your choices and decisions are all your own; you have total control of
your travel plans.
c. You can usually accept the offers to give up your airplane
seat on an over-booked flight ...and get a free trip voucher...because
you don't have to coordinate your schedule with anyone else...and you can
be more spontaneous.
6. Spontaneity:
When you are single you can decide to do whatever you want
to do whenever you feel like it. I can decide to go to a movie..or
a play..or a restaurant....or take a walk on the beach...or take a nap...at
the spur of the moment. I can do what I want whenever "the
spirit moves me."
7. Life is Simpler:
When you are single you don't have to spend hours trying to find
people to do things with you, or trying to coordinate plans with others,
or trying to organize and arrange plans. You can just Get Up and Go! You
only have yourself to confer with about your plans.
8. Life is an Adventure:
When you are single you never know who you are going to meet
and what is going to happen next. I always feel excited about
and open to the infinite possibilities that can occur at any moment in
my life. Being Single is Fun and Exciting and always an Adventure!
