2. READER FEEDBACK: (on Creating Environments that Grow You: issue #68)
>Although it is better to live and work in harmonious environments,
many of
us face intense job stress from reorganizations and the resulting cutbacks
and confusions. However I have found that by returning to the harmony
within ourselves through meditation or however each of us does this
we can
remain balanced when everything in our environment is out of harmony.
Sometimes being in these difficult environments is what forces us to
assess ourselves, to keep returning to our own inner strengths, and
as
we open to them to grow from these painful experiences>

3. WEEKLY ARTICLE: <VALENTINE THOUGHTS>
This week seemed to be consumed
with much talk and print about Valentine's Day; this really seemed to be
Valentine's Week. Our local paper had two or three articles on topics
related to Valentine's; I received numerous e-newsletters; even Newsweek
had an article where they stated: <as the world endures another Valentine's
Day, 80 million American singles require comfort in the face of the annual
assault on their self esteem> However, people in committed relationships
can also feel <assaulted on their self esteem> if their intimate connection
is not what they want it to be. Valentine's Day certainly seems to
focus our attention on our intimate relationships or lack thereof; and
thus we can decide if we want to take actions to create better relationships.
I met my (ex) husband on
a blind date on Valentine's Day, so the day has always had special meaning
for me. Now, as one of the 80 million singles, I realize I do want
to find, again, that special person in my life: my soul mate...companion...friend...significant
other..life partner. Yet I don't see it as an <assault on my self
esteem> that I haven't found him; and I know I will be fine if I continue
to live my independent, exciting life. I like to think of Valentine's
day as a time to reflect upon all my connections with all the people in
my life...and to cherish my connections with friends and family.
And it's a time to remember to tell them how much I care about them...with
cards or phone calls or email.
I also want to cherish my
connection with myself, knowing that I can be my own Valentine! Someone
said in a e-newsletter: Romance Yourself! (Romance=loving attention and
affection)
So, what did I do to romance
myself on Valentine's Day? I bought myself flowers - yellow roses,
my favorite; I got a massage; I spent time with people I love; I sent out
cards; I treated myself to a special dinner with friends; I wrote
in my journal all the things I love about myself and I acknowledged myself
for all I have done. Relationship coach, Rinatta Paries, suggested
that we send Valentine's cards to ourself as if a wonderful, caring, loving
partner is writing to us. (see more of her suggestions below).
And why not celebrate Valentine's
Day every day? Love ourself first...then love others...and take action
to manifest this love regularly!
If you want to take action
to find that significant other, here are some suggestions that came out
of a teleclass I led awhile ago on <Finding Mr./Ms. Right>
<TOP TEN WAYS TO FIND
MR./MS. RIGHT>
1. Use the Internet - write a personal ad, join a chat room.

2. Personal Ads..in newspapers, magazines, dating pages...
3. Dating Clubs: invest in their services..
eg. Great Expectations,
the Post Club, the Right Stuff, Successful Singles, Lunch Dates...
4. Community Programs: Check local community colleges, adult education
centers for programs for
singles (or not) such as wine tastings, group outings,
cultural activities, workshops/courses
on topics related to being single or
just on subjects of interest
to you.
5. Singles Activities: Check local papers for singles activities: dances,
special interest
groups, weekly events/lectures;
organize parties and tell your
friends to bring another
single friend..
6. Do What You Love...Get involved in activities you love to do, like
dancing,
going to the gym, to church,
play tennis, go hiking or skiing or windsurfing;
go to cultural events.......Be
visible and approachable; initiate conversations.
eg. check out AMC (Appalachian
Mountain Club), the Sierra Club, ski clubs
Dancing - check out www.havetodance.com
for lists of all the dances in the Boston area.
Travel -(preferably alone..
or with other single frinds], stay in hostels/B&B's
or join organized travel/adventure
groups.
Check out community centers
for classes on how to travel alone..
7. Referrals: Tell Everyone! Tell all your friends and colleagues
that you are looking for Mr./Ms. Right;
ask them to think about
connecting you up with someone they know who they think
you would like.
8. Become Irresistibly Attractive - Build your personal foundation,
get your
needs met, clarify your
values..become the person you would want
to date! For more
information on this process; read <The Portable Coach> by Thomas Leonard;

4. RECOMMENDED TASKS:
1. Be your own Valentine! Everyday...Take action steps to validate,
acknowledge, romance and love yourself.
2. Call or email me for a complimentary half-hour COACHING session
to support you in your relationship needs: finding Mr/Ms. Right or perfecting
your current connections.
Voice:617-494-1422; email: laurie@ingearcoaching.com
3. *A great idea from relationship coach, Rinatta Paries:
Instead of spending Valentine's day (or other lonely days) being sad
about not having a relationship, do something powerful for your relationship
future. This exercise will allow you to experience true, healthy love.
If your history is strewn with broken relationships, you have seldom--if
ever--experienced true, healthy love. Experiencing it will give you the
ability to recognize someone capable of it, and will give you the power
to attract it.
1. Go to Hallmark or some other fancy card store.
2. Buy a few very nice cards, the kind you would love to get from an
intimate partner.
3. Go home, take out the cards and a nice pen, and start writing Valentine's
messages to yourself. The key is to write as if a wonderful, caring, generous
relationship partner is writing to you. Although you don't have such a
partner right now, I'm sure you know just what you'd like to hear. Write
exactly that. Write what you most want to hear from someone who loves you.
Go overboard with compliments and praise and words of love.
4. Seal the cards and put your name on the envelope. Maybe even draw
something on the envelope.
5. Put the cards in different places around the house to be found and
opened on Valentine's Day(or any other day!)
6. When you open the cards on (Valentine's) Day, do not discount what
you've written to yourself. It may not be from a current lover; however,
it is from someone who loves you--YOU.
The more you allow yourself to feel love, even self-love, the more
likely you are to attract true love into your life.
