NEW! RSP - RETIREMENT SUCCESS PROFILE*
*Developed by Richard Johnson, www.retirementoptions.com

The Retirement Success Profile (RSP) is a 120 item pencil and paper instrument which measures readiness to retire. It can help preretirees in two important ways: 1. By providing a quantitative measure of preparation for retirement to date, and 2. By pinpointing areas where preretirees can focus their attention so they can raise their level of retirement readiness. The RSP measures 15 "retirement success factors." These 15 variables have been demonstrated to positively impact one's retirement decision and/or future retirement lifestyle. These 15 retirement success factors are:

1. Work Disengagement
2. Attitude Toward Retirement
3. Personal Directedness
4. Health Perception
5. Financial Security (subjective)
6. Current Life Satisfaction
7. Projected Life Satisfaction
8. Life Meaning
9. Leisure Interests
10. Adaptability
11. Life Stage Satisfaction
12. Dependents
13. Familial & Marital Issues
14. Perception of Age
15. Replacement of Work Functions

DEVELOPMENT OF THE INSTRUMENT

The Retirement Success Profile (RSP) has its original roots in the work of the life span developmentalists (Levinson, Sheehy, Gould, Valliant and McCory). The notion of life span development is a later outgrowth of the career development work of Super, Westbrook, and Teideman. These two concepts, life-long development and career maturity merge in the construct of retirement success and the measurement thereof in the RSP.

The retirement decision is a very personal one. Each preretiree uses slightly different data, in slightly different ways to make a decision of maximum personal value. This is the very reason why preretirement programs MUST be individualized. The RSP helps persons preparing for retirement view their own very personal life situation so they can make the most comprehensive decision possible.

SCORES GENERATED BY THE RSP
The RSP produces three scores for each of the 15 retirement success factors for a total of 45 scores. The three scores are:

1. Expectancy scores or E-scores : E-scores measure the level of preparedness the individual feels he should develop or would like to develop prior to his/her actual retirement date. E-scores give a quantitative measure of one's general attitudes about retirement. E-scores give precise input to the question, "How prepared do I think I ought to be to enter retirement?"

2. Behavior scores or B-scores : B-scores are a measurement of the individual's current and actual level of preparation behavior accomplished to date. These scores quantitatively answer the implicit question every person approaching retirement asks, "How prepared am I to enter this new career developmental stage called retirement?"

3. Variance scores or V-scores : V-scores are a second-order score in that they are obtained by subtracting B-scores from E-scores on each of the 15 retirement success factors. V-scores give a quantitative indicator of the amount of energy the individual approaching retirement still needs to focus on in order to be maximally prepared for a personally successful retirement. V-scores answer the questions, 1. In what specific areas of my life do I need to concentrate my energies? and 2. How much of my energy is needed in order to achieve the type and level of preparation I would like to achieve?

Perhaps the best way to use the RSP is to have both spouses take it. Couples make a retirement team. When both spouses are functioning in unison, the success of retirement is immeasurably enriched. Finally, the RSP provides the preretiree an objective and quantitative measure of a decision which heretofore has been a simple, hit-or-miss proposition. The RSP adds tangible sophistication to the fast emerging field of services to persons approaching retirement.

*THE MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR (MBTI)
The MBTI is considered "the best researched, most widely-used, and largest-selling personality measure for self awareness for the general public."  The MBTI clearly shows the strengths inherent in our differences.. called our "gifts differing"....thus creating better relationships, at work or at home.  The MBTI has been used successfully in team-building, career counseling, marriage counseling, roommate matching, teacher/student pairings,  and much more.
(The MBTI must be administered by a certified professional). Contact me for your MBTI assessment.

  MSEI: The Multidimensional Self-Esteem Inventory
The MSEI is an objective self-report inventory which  measures 4 areas of one's self esteem:  1) Global self esteem or, one's most basic evaluation of self worth;  2) Specific self esteem: which includes 8 specific qualities: competence, lovability, likability, self-control, personal power, moral self-approval, body appearance, and body functioning;  3) Identity Integration: the extent to which one's identity is integrated with the 8 qualities;  4) Defensive self-enhancement: the extent to which a person defensively deflates or inflates his or her identity.

"There is wide recognition by psychologists, educators, and mental health professionals that a comprehensive evaluation of personality involves examination of the individual's self perceptions (self concept) and the evaluations associated with those perceptions (self esteem).  Self-esteem and self-concept have long been regarded as central to the fields of personality and clinical psychology."  (The MSEI needs to be interpreted by a professional).

The HOLMES-RAHE LIFE CHANGE SCALE  (or The Social ReAdjustment Scale)
     Often called the STRESS TEST!
An individual ranks 43 critical, but common, life changes, weights them by number thus giving a total score. The higher the score, the more likely the individual is to experience injury or illness.  By becoming aware of one's total score, the individual may choose to minimize any more changes in their life thus preventing stress-related illness.

The following assessments developed by Thomas Leonard and CoachU:

CLEAN SWEEP

Related assessment: THE WHEEL OF LIFE (developed by CTI: Coach Training Institute) - a visual assessment of 8 areas of life balance.

TRU-VALUES
This assessment helps you clarify and identify what your top 4 true values are and then motivates you to design a life which honors and expresses those values.  Values are those qualities that matter most to you.  If you are living a life that is out of alignment with your values, you will be living a life of discomfort and anxiety...you will feel out of integrity.
Related assessment: STRENGTHS INVENTORY ("Identifying your strengths is one of the best ways to build your self esteem!")

NEEDless
The purpose of the NEEDless program is to help you identify your top 4 personal needs, understand how to get your personal needs met, and design an effective system to have your needs disappear once and for all.  Personal needs are those things we must have in order to be our best.  Unmet needs often drain energy and distract us from getting what we really want in life.
