Retirement Coaching

Let's Retire Retirement - and get ReFired! ReWired! Renewed! Rejuvenated!
Create the life you want in your "third age" - your final years. NOW is the time!

Retirement Coaching is the fastest growing niche for coaches today. Over 80 million Baby Boomers reached retirement age (57) in 2000; over 10,000 people retire per day in the US. Older adults are healthier, more vigorous, better educated, and more financially secure than ever before; they can expect to live 30 years in retirement. (Average age = 85 for many people). It’s therefore crucial that you plan your retirement early in order to create a life that is full of meaning and purpose, not just leisure time. This final life stage is a time when people - YOU - have the opportunity to live their dream!

A coach can help you do that the best! Let me help you.

Erik Erikson's Adult Life Stages - The New Model

Adult developmental pioneer, Erik Erikson identified eight life stages. He perceived that each life stage was marked by a crisis or task that must be resolved in order for the individual to move on successfully to the next. He also believed that each developmental task was defined in terms of a dichotomy, which could have either a desirable or an undesirable outcome.

Stage 1: Infancy (Age 0–1) Trust vs. Mistrust

Stage 2: Toddler (Age 1-2) Autonomy vs. Doubt

Stage 3: Early Childhood (Age 2-6) Initiative vs. Guilt

Stage 4: Elementary Years (Age 6-12) Competence vs. Inferiority

Stage 5: Adolescence (Age 12-18) Identity vs. Role Confusion

Stage 6: Young Adult (Age 19-40) Intimacy vs. Isolation

Stage 7: Middle Adult (Age 40–55) Generativity vs. Stagnation

(New) Stage 8: Late Adult (Age 55-75) Renew vs. Retire

Stage 9: Elder Adult (Age 75-90) Integrity vs. Despair

(New) Stage 10: Oldest Adult (90 – death) Gero-Transcendence

Erikson was concerned about the growing uselessness of elders in modern society. He felt strongly that the whole world suffers – not just the individual – as elders are removed from the tapestry of intergenerational life. Old age demands that one garner and lean on all previous experience, maintaining awareness and creativity with a new grace. We can look back over a long past, and so doing helps us understand our lives and the world we live in……the only thing that can save us as a species is …generativity…that will promote positive values in the lives of the next generation.

Erikson’s wife, Joan, continued with his research after his death. She identified a Ninth (Tenth?) stage (while she was in her 90’s) which she called Gero-Transcendence. She reflected that in this more spiritual lifestage, the individual experiences a shift from a materialistic, rational perspective to a more cosmic and transcendent vision
